Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains which personal data the Game Companion app ("the app", "we") collects, why we do so, and what rights you have. We care about your privacy and handle your data carefully.

1. Who we are

Game Companion is an app that lets gamers find each other and chat. The party responsible for your data is the developer of Game Companion. For questions, contact us at gamecompanionofficial@gmail.com.

2. What data we collect

We only collect the data needed to make the app work:

Account data: your email address and password. The password is stored encrypted by Firebase Authentication; we cannot see it ourselves.
Profile data: username, date of birth and age, gender, nationality, gaming experience, languages you speak, platforms/consoles, and (optionally) a profile photo.
Usage data: your online status and the games you add.
Chat messages: the messages you send to and receive from other users.
Notifications: a push token from your device, so we can notify you of a new chat message.
Technical data: limited technical information (such as time of use and an IP address) processed by our provider Google Firebase to secure and operate the service.

3. Why we use this data

To create your account and let you sign in.
To show your profile and match you with other gamers based on your preferences and filters.
To enable the chat feature.
To send you notifications about new messages.
To secure the app and prevent abuse.

The legal basis for this is the performance of the agreement (providing the service) and your consent, which you give when creating an account.

4. Who we share data with

We never sell your data. Other users of the app can see your profile data (such as username, age, gender, nationality, photo and platforms) when you appear in search results or chat with them. In addition, we use the following processors:

Google Firebase (Google Ireland Ltd.) — for sign-in, the database, the server functions and sending notifications.
Expo — for delivering push notifications to your device.

These parties process data solely to provide the service on our behalf.

5. How long we keep data

We keep your data for as long as you have an account. If you delete your account, your profile and account data are deleted. Chat messages may remain visible to the other participant.

6. Security

Your data is stored on the secure servers of Google Firebase. Access is restricted by security rules, so that only signed-in users have access and you can only edit your own profile.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

access your data;
have your data corrected or deleted;
object to the processing;
withdraw your consent.

You can do much of this yourself in the app (edit your profile or delete your account). To submit a request, email gamecompanionofficial@gmail.com.

8. Deleting your account

You can request deletion of your account and data at any time by emailing gamecompanionofficial@gmail.com.

9. Age

You must be at least 16 years old to use Game Companion. We do not knowingly collect data from children under the age of 16.

10. Changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
